RTI launches its 2008-09 season with the American classic, All My Sons, which is also currently experiencing a revival on Broadway.   During the war, Joe Keller and Steve Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts.  The firm turned out defective parts, causing the death of many men.  While Deever was sent to prison, Keller was acquitted on grounds of “plausible deniability” and went on to become very rich.   Dark clouds loom over the catastrophe.   This gripping drama examines the morality of a man who places his love of family above his wider responsibility to the men whose lives rely on the integrity of his work.

WONDER OF THE WORLD by David Linsey-Abaire
Dec 4-21, 2008 @ Iowa Public Theatre (aka Kruidenier-Cowles Aud. in Historical Bldg)

RTI next flips a 180 on a wild ride over Niagara Falls in a barrel of laughs with the Iowa premiere of David Linsey-Abaire’s Wonder of the World.  Nothing will prepare you for the dirty little secret Cass discovers in her husband’s sweater drawer.  It’s so shocking it short-circuits her view of life and sends her fleeing to the honeymoon capital of the world in a frantic search for the life she missed out on.  Cass embarks on a journey of self-discovery that has her crossing paths with a blithely suicidal alcoholic, a lonely tour-boat captain, a pair of bickering private detectives, and a strange caper involving a gargantuan jar of peanut putter, all of which pushes her perilously close to the water’s edge.

LOVE FOR SHORT by Anton Chekhov, adapted by James Serpento and Andy White
Feb 26-Mar 15, 2009 @ TBA

Laughter and pursuit of love land the closing kiss with RTI’s third and final production of its 2008-09 Season.  Epitomizing RTI’s unique niche of “reviving the classics of yesterday, creating the classics of tomorrow”, Love for Short presents five works by Anton Chekhov adapted  from the original Russian by Andy White and RTI’s own James Serpento.   The production features Chekhov’s plays The Marriage Proposal and The Bear, plus three new plays freely adapted from Chekhov’s short stories for the stage: Zena, The Doctor, and Lazy Suzan.  With Love for Short, RTI serves Central Iowans with another Iowa premiere allowing them to enjoy and experience new adaptations of classic comedies by one of the world’s master writers.
